The reliability of power transformers depends heavily on the dielectric strength of the insulating oil. Over time, moisture, dissolved gases, and particulate contaminants degrade the oil's breakdown voltage, increasing the risk of costly transformer failures. Traditional manual filtration methods are labour‑intensive and prone to inconsistent results. The ZYD‑A PLC Fully Automatic Transformer Oil Processing Machine addresses these challenges by integrating programmable logic control with a dualstage vacuum system, delivering fully automated dehydration, degassing, and particulate removal for transformer oil, silicone fluids, and other dielectric liquids both in workshops and directly on energised or deenergised transformers.

Core Technology :Dual‑Stage Vacuum and PLC Automation

At the heart of the ZYD‑A is a two stage vacuum system comprising a primary vacuum pump and a Roots booster pump. This combination achieves an extremely low absolute pressure , which significantly lowers the boiling point of water and dissolved gases, enabling their efficient removal even at moderate oil temperatures. 

The PLC controller orchestrates the entire process: oil heating, vacuum maintenance, filter switching, and automatic discharge of condensate. The system includes a double infrared liquid level sensor and pressure protection interlocks that prevent dry running, over heating, and oil leakage. If any abnormality is detected such as excessive filter pressure, low oil level, or vacuum loss the PLC initiates an emergency shutdown, ensuring safe unattended operation for extended periods.

A built‑in anti‑foam control system prevents oil foaming under high vacuum, a common issue with aged or high viscosity oils. This is achieved through a combination of defoaming chambers and automatic pressure regulation, which stabilises the vacuum level and protects the vacuum pumps from oil carry over.

 

Operational Safety and Automation

The ZYD‑A is engineered for maximum operator convenience and safety. The PLC interface displays real‑time parameters: oil temperature, vacuum level, filter differential pressure, and processing time. Preset programmes allow the operator to select a standard cycle with a single touch. The machine automatically adjusts heating power, vacuum pump speed, and condensate drainage based on oil condition, optimising energy consumption a feature that reduces power usage by up to 15% compared to manually controlled units.

Safety interlocks are comprehensive:

Low‑level protection: Prevents heater dry‑run and pump cavitation.

High‑temperature cut‑off: Shuts down the heater if oil exceeds 80°C to avoid thermal degradation.

Over‑pressure alarm: Stops the oil pump if filter pressure exceeds 0.6 MPa, preventing element rupture.

Electrical leakage monitoring: Ground‑fault detection with automatic disconnection.
